When the triple-digit Las Vegas heat hits, the hotel pool doesn’t always cut it. If you’re looking for real slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers, you’re likely looking at the "Cowabunga Vegas" duo.
But with one park in Henderson and the other in Summerlin, which one should you choose if you’re staying at a resort on the Strip or Downtown? Here is everything you need to know to make the right splash.
1. Cowabunga Bay (Henderson)
Best for: The "Big Park" feel and maximum relaxation. The Vibe: This is the flagship location. It has a bright, 1960s "Surf’s Up" retro theme.
What You’ll Find Here: A sprawling 23-acre site featuring over 25 slides and attractions. Highlights include the massive Surf-A-Rama Wave Pool (set in a 1950s drive-in movie theater theme), the 60-foot drop of Wild Surf, and the dark, sound-effect-filled body slide Point Panic.
Location: About 15–20 minutes southeast of the Strip/Downtown (off I-515).
The Standout: The Cowabunga River (lazy river) here is massive and features themed sprayers and "shacks" to float through.
Pro Tip: This park features conveyor belts for the large tubes on most major slides. If you don't want to haul a giant four-person raft up five flights of stairs in 105-degree weather, this is your park.
2. Cowabunga Canyon (Summerlin South)
Best for: Families with younger kids and a more rugged "Wild West" vibe. The Vibe: Formerly Wet ‘n’ Wild, this park has a desert-canyon aesthetic that feels integrated into the Nevada landscape.
What You’ll Find Here: A world-class selection of high-intensity slides like Deuce’s Wild and Texas Tornado, along with the Cadillac Shores Wave Pool. It also boasts one of the largest interactive children’s play structures in the state, Buckaroo Bay.
Location: About 20 minutes west of the Strip (near the 215 and Sunset).
The Standout: The kiddie area (Piñata Place) is often cited as being more expansive than the one at the Bay, making it a favorite for parents with toddlers.
Pro Tip: There are fewer tube conveyors here compared to the Henderson location. Be prepared for a bit more of a workout if you’re hitting the big raft rides like Hi-Ho Silver.
Which is closer to you?
Both parks are an easy drive from the resort areas. However, here are the most direct routes:
Staying on the North Strip or Downtown? Cowabunga Bay (Henderson) is usually a more direct shot down the I-515 south.
Staying on the South Strip (Mandalay Bay/Luxor)? Cowabunga Canyon (Summerlin) is an easy drive west via the 215 beltway.
LAS Discounts Local Pro Tips:
The "Summer Nights" Hack: If you want to avoid the peak UV rays and save money, look for the "Summer Nights" tickets. Entry is significantly cheaper for the final three hours of the day, and the sunset views from the top of the slide towers are spectacular.
Hydration is Key: You can’t bring outside food, but you can usually bring one factory-sealed bottle of water per person. Take advantage of that.
Check the Pass: If you plan on visiting both during your trip, the Cowabunga Vegas Season Pass often pays for itself in just two visits and grants admission to both parks.
