The future of transportation has officially landed in Southern Nevada. As reported by Las Vegas Locally, Uber has launched a new partnership that allows passengers to hail a Motional IONIQ 5 robotaxi for their next trip around town.
This new offering comes with no additional upcharge compared to a standard ride. While the vehicle operates using autonomous technology, a safety operator currently remains in the front seat to monitor the drive and take control if necessary.
According to the report, riders can find these autonomous vehicles at several popular pickup locations, including:
Resorts World
Encore
Westgate
Downtown
Town Square
While a human monitor is present for now, a fully driverless experience with no safety operator in the vehicle is expected to be available by the end of 2026. This rollout reinforces the reputation of Las Vegas as a premier testing ground for cutting-edge technology.
Whether you are heading to a show or visiting a local shopping center, keep an eye on your Uber app for the chance to experience a robotaxi firsthand.
LAS Discounts insider-tip: In addition, Amazon's autonomous robotaxi service Zoox, is now offering free rides along the Las Vegas Strip, providing a unique driverless transportation experience. Currently, rides are completely free as Zoox collects user feedback and refines its service. This promotion is expected to last until the company receives regulatory approval to start charging fares, which will be comparable to traditional taxis and ride-sharing services.
