Strike a Pose at the Iconic Welcome to Las Vegas Sign

No Vegas adventure is complete without a stop at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. It’s the ultimate "I was here" badge of honor. But if you’ve ever driven past and seen a line stretching halfway to the airport, you know that getting that perfect shot requires a little strategy.

Where is it exactly?

The sign is located in the median of 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South. Technically, it’s just south of the official "Strip" and actually sits in Paradise, Nevada. It’s right across from the Bali Hai Golf Club and just north of the historic stone pillars of the old McCarran Airport entrance.

Can You Walk from Mandalay Bay?

Yes, you can! It is the closest resort to the sign, located about one mile (roughly a 15–20 minute walk) to the south.

LAS Insider Tip: While walkable, remember this is the desert! If you’re visiting in the summer, that "quick walk" can feel like a trek across the Sahara. If it’s over 100°F, we recommend taking the Deuce bus (which has a dedicated stop right at the sign) or a quick ride-share to save your energy for the casinos.

Tips for the Perfect Sign Selfie

The "Secret" Photo Angle: If the main line is too long (it can sometimes be an hour wait!), try standing off to the side on the grass. You can often get the sign in the background of your photo without waiting in the official queue.

Parking Prowess: There is a small, free parking lot in the median accessible only when driving southbound on Las Vegas Blvd. If it's full, don't try to pull a dangerous U-turn; just circle back or use a ride-share.

Lighting: Visit at dawn for beautiful soft light and zero crowds, or at night to see the neon in all its glory. Just remember that night shots can be tricky with phone cameras—use "Night Mode" to keep the sign from looking like a glowing white blob!

Can’t Make it to the Original? Try These Alternatives!

If the line is just too long or you’re staying at the other end of town, Vegas has plenty of other iconic backdrops:

• LAS Airport: A fabulous neon sign (above) can be found in Terminal 1 on Level 2, near the information booth that is across the bridge from the A/B TSA Checkpoint.

• The "Downtown" Replica: Located on Las Vegas Blvd near the STRAT, there’s a newer "Welcome to Fabulous Downtown Las Vegas" sign. It’s often much less crowded!

• 

  The Gateway Arches: Right next to the STRAT, these massive 80-foot illuminated arches (above) are a modern neon marvel.

• The Neon Museum: If you want vintage vibes, the "Boneyard" is filled with retired signs that make for incredible, artistic photos.
