Town Square on the south Strip, and the easiest $0 dinner in town on Tuesday night.

QUICK FACTS AT A GLANCE

  • When Tuesday, October 6, 2026 — most sites 5:00–8:00 p.m.

  • Cost $0 admission. Hot dogs, snacks, and drinks provided by sponsors at LVMPD sites while supplies last.

  • Best bet Town Square, 6605 S. Las Vegas Blvd. — three area commands, longest window, easiest parking.

  • Who it's for Families, neighbors, and anyone who wants dinner handled and the kids worn out by 8 p.m.

  • Bring Nothing required. A light jacket for after sunset and a phone for photos with the trucks.

Let's be honest about Tuesdays. You are not looking for a project. You are looking for someone else to handle dinner, keep the kids busy for two hours, and not charge you $80 for the privilege. On Tuesday, October 6, that's exactly what National Night Out delivers — in about a dozen places at once.

National Night Out is the annual night when police departments across the country close the laptops, fire up the grills, and meet neighbors in parks instead of on calls. Las Vegas does it bigger than most. The LVMPD Foundation coordinates sites in every corner of the Valley, Henderson and Boulder City run their own parties, and every single one

is free. No tickets, no RSVP, no wristband math. You show up, you eat, you play, you head home. We rank a lot of deals on this site. This is the rare one where the price and the quality actually line up.

The flagship: Town Square does it biggest

If you only pick one location, pick Town Square. It is the anchor site for a reason: three LVMPD area commands — Convention Center, South Central, and Enterprise — all in one place, which means more officers, more vehicles, more demonstrations, and more food lines moving at once.

The official window is 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 6605 S. Las Vegas Boulevard, right off the I-15 and the 215.

  • Why we send people here first: parking is plentiful and free in the garages, you are already set up for an evening stroll if the kids get a second wind, and the layout spreads the crowd out so you are not funneling through a single parking lot.

Arrive right at 5:00 if dinner is the mission. The hot dog lines are shortest in the first 30 minutes, and the touch-a-truck area is still easy to navigate before the after-work rush.

If Town Square is a haul for you, do not drive across town for it. The whole point of this night is that there is a version five minutes from your house. Pick your quadrant below and save the gas money too.

The vibe is closer to a neighborhood cookout than a formal event — folding chairs, red cups, and kids who will sleep well.

Every location, ranked by what you get

All LVMPD sites below are free and open to all ages. Hours vary slightly by area command — we list the official times from the LVMPD Foundation so you do not show up to an empty park at 7:30 when your site wrapped at 7:00.

  1. Town Square — South Strip — 6605 S. Las Vegas Blvd. • 5:00–8:00 p.m. • Convention Center / South Central / Enterprise. The biggest footprint and the best bet if you are meeting friends from different sides of town.

  2. Downtown Summerlin — 1980 Festival Plaza Dr. • 4:30–7:30 p.m. • Summerlin / Spring Valley / Northwest. Earliest start in the Valley — smart if you have little kids on a strict bedtime — and you get the Lawn at Downtown Summerlin as your backdrop.

  3. Bob Price Recreation Center — Northeast — 2050 Bonnie Ln. • 5:00–8:00 p.m. • Northeast Area Command. A true park party with room for games and a strong neighborhood turnout year after year.

  4. Hollywood Recreation Center — East side — 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd. • 5:00–7:00 p.m. • Southeast Area Command. Two-hour window, so go early. Great pick for Sunrise Mountain and east Las Vegas families.

  5. Doolittle Recreation Center — West side — 1950 J St. • 5:00–7:00 p.m. • Bolden Area Command. Another focused two-hour party — efficient, friendly, and easy to do dinner-and-done.

  6. Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza — Downtown — 525 S. Main St., at Las Vegas Civic Center • 6:00–8:00 p.m. • Downtown Area Command. The latest start, right across from City Hall. Good option if you work downtown and want to walk over.

  7. Henderson — Water Street Plaza — 240 S. Water St., Henderson • 5:00–8:00 p.m. Henderson Police and Fire run their own Night Out with SWAT and motors demonstrations, fire engine displays, and dozens of community partners. If you are already in Henderson, do not drive to Town Square — this is your party.

  8. Boulder City — Veterans Memorial Park — 5:00–8:00 p.m. Worth the short drive if you want the small-town version: the annual Police vs. Fire Battle of the Badges softball game at 6:00 p.m., ambulance and fire vehicle tours, K-9 demonstrations, giveaways for kids, and food trucks on site.

  9. Searchlight Park — 200 Michael's Way, Searchlight • 5:00–7:00 p.m. • Laughlin Area Command. Smaller, quieter, and exactly right for Searchlight and Laughlin neighbors who should not have to drive into the city for a free hot dog.

What actually happens (besides the hot dogs)

  • Free food, first: Hot dogs, snacks, and drinks are provided by community sponsors at the LVMPD sites. It is not afive-course meal, but it is absolutely dinner for a kid and, if we are being real, for most adults on a Tuesday.

  • Touch-a-truck that actually delivers: Fire engines, SWAT vehicles, and patrol cars open for kids to climb in and explore. This is the photo you will send to the grandparents.

  • K-9 and tactical demos: The K-9 units run demonstrations and meet-and-greets. Henderson adds a high-angle SWAT rappelling demo and a motors unit presentation; Boulder City leans into its Battle of the Badges game. Every site has its own headliner, so check the one closest to you.

  • Carnival games and giveaways: Ring toss, games, face painting at some sites, music, and sponsor tables handing out genuinely useful stuff — safety info, school resources, and the occasional freebie the kids will guard with their lives.

  • Actual conversation: The low-key best part. You can ask your area command officers the questions you would never call about — neighborhood concerns, vacation checks, how to start a neighborhood watch — face to face, with a hot dog in hand.

How to play it like a local

  • Go at 5:00, not 6:30. You will eat in five minutes instead of twenty, the demos have not started yet so you get a front-row spot, and you can still be home for homework and baths.

  • Pick the closest park, not the biggest one. The savings are not just the free dinner — they are the hour you do not spend crossing the Valley at rush hour. Town Square is worth it if you are already south; otherwise your neighborhood site is the smarter deal.

  • Make it a two-for-one night. Town Square and Downtown Summerlin both put you in a dining and shopping district. Do the free party first, then decide if you even still want to buy anything. Most families find they do not need to.

  • Bring a bag. Between giveaways, resource flyers, and whatever your kid wins at ring toss, you will be carrying more out than you carried in.

  • Say thanks and learn one name. The entire point of the night is knowing your officers and your neighbors before you need them. One introduction is the return on your (zero) investment.

  • The bottom line: you were going to spend $40 to $60 feeding the family something forgettable on Tuesday, or spend 45 minutes cooking and another 20 cleaning up. Instead, you can drive five to fifteen minutes, let someone else grill, let the kids run around a fire truck, and be home by 8. That is not just a free dinner. That is the best hourly rate in Las Vegas this week.
