Zoox, Amazon's autonomous robotaxi service, has officially hit its stride in Las Vegas. Offering a futuristic, steering-wheel-free experience, these "toasters-on-wheels" are now a regular sight along the Strip, providing a unique way to get from point A to point B without a driver in sight.
Overview of the Zoox Experience
Expansion & Availability: Following its successful 2025 launch, Zoox is in its "year of growth." As of spring 2026, the service has more than doubled its pickup and drop-off locations. You can now find them at most major hotels along the Las Vegas Strip and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The Design: Unlike standard cars, Zoox vehicles are purpose-built for riders. They feature a bidirectional design (no front or back) and a carriage-style interior where four passengers face each other. There are no pedals or steering wheels—just touchscreens for climate control and music.
New Tech Features: The latest update includes "Find My Zoox," which uses specific light and sound sequences to help you spot your ride in crowded casino valet areas.
How to Use the Service
Free Rides: Currently, Zoox is still offering rides free of charge as it continues to scale and gather rider feedback. However, keep in mind that popularity has spiked; weekend wait times at hot spots like Resorts World can often exceed 45 minutes.
Booking: To grab a ride, you’ll need the Zoox app. The service operates within a geo-fenced area that includes Resorts World, AREA15, Topgolf, Luxor, and New York-New York.
Coming Soon: Limited service is currently rolling out for high-traffic venues like The Sphere and T-Mobile Arena, with public access expected later this spring.
Future Plans: The Uber Integration
Big changes are coming this summer. Uber recently announced a partnership with Zoox that will allow you to hail these purpose-built robotaxis directly through the Uber app. This integration aims to make autonomous travel as seamless as booking a standard UberX.
LAS Discounts Insider Tip
If the Zoox wait time is too long, check your Uber app for a Motional IONIQ 5 robotaxi. Uber recently relaunched this service in Las Vegas, covering areas like Encore at Wynn, Westgate, Downtown Las Vegas, and Town Square.
The Catch: While Zoox is entirely driverless, Motional vehicles currently still have a safety operator in the front seat. The good news? There is no extra upcharge for these autonomous trips compared to a standard UberX, and you can even set your "Ride Preferences" in the Uber app to maximize your chances of being matched with one.
