5 Tips to Keep Cool on the Las Vegas Strip

Living right here in Las Vegas, I know firsthand just how intense the desert heat can get during the summer months. The energy on the Strip is electric year-round, but when the temperatures soar, you need a solid game plan to stay comfortable. Fortunately, staying cool while enjoying everything the city has to offer is easier than you think.

Here are five of my favorite ways to beat the heat on the Las Vegas Strip.

1. Master the "Great Indoors" Walkways

You can actually cover a massive amount of ground on the Strip without ever stepping outside for more than a few minutes. Take advantage of the connected air-conditioned walkways, free trams, and pedestrian bridges. For example, you can take a tram from Park MGM to Bellagio, or walk the indoor connecting paths between Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur. Navigating through properties like the Miracle Mile Shops also provides a massive, chilled detour right in the center of the action.

2. Pre-Hydrate and Carry an Insulated Bottle

In the desert, once you feel thirsty, you are already behind. The dry air means your sweat evaporates instantly, so you might not even realize how much water you are losing. Start your morning with a large glass of water, and carry a double-insulated water bottle with you. Almost all the major casinos have water fountains near the restrooms where you can refill for free. Save the frozen cocktails for after you have had plenty of water!

3. Shift Your Schedule

Vegas truly comes alive when the sun goes down and temperatures drop. If you want to explore the outdoor sights, do it early. Walking the Strip at 7:00 a.m. is surprisingly peaceful and pleasant. During the peak UV hours between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., head indoors. This is the perfect time to catch a matinee show, explore the Bellagio Conservatory, or grab a long lunch.

4. Upgrade Your Pool Day

Nothing beats the heat like a Las Vegas pool, but you want to do it right. Instead of baking in the direct sun, look for properties that offer ample shade or consider renting a cabana. Mandalay Bay Beach offers a massive wave pool and lazy river, while places like the Cosmopolitan often feature dive-in movies during the summer. Get to the pool early to claim a spot under an umbrella.

5. Seek Out the Ice

When the AC is not quite enough, take it to the extreme. The Strip is home to several minus5 ICEBAR locations, including spots at Mandalay Bay, The Venetian, and the LINQ Promenade. They give you a parka and gloves at the door, and you can enjoy a drink in a room where everything from the seats to the glasses is made of ice. It is the ultimate afternoon reset.

Stay cool out there!
