Nightmare in the Arena: The Free Halloween Horse Show You Should Not Miss (Oct 9–10)

Here is a sentence you do not read every day: there is a free Halloween show in
Las Vegas this weekend featuring Roman riding, aerial stunts, fire performers,
and a herd of trained horses — and it will not cost you a dime.
It is called Nightmare in the Arena, the Halloween edition of Gladius the Show,
and it runs Friday and Saturday nights all October at the troupe's ranch in
northwest Las Vegas. This weekend's theme is Witches & Warlocks. Admission is
free. Donations are accepted. And if you have never heard of it, you are exactly
who this post is for.
What It Is
Gladius the Show is a Las Vegas equestrian troupe that performs in an outdoor
arena at their ranch. Their regular shows mix Roman riding (riders standing on
the backs of two moving horses — yes, really), vaulting, aerial acts, and fire
performance, all built around a herd of trained horses.
For October, the whole production goes Halloween. Each weekend gets its own
theme:
Oct 2–3: Zombie Apocalypse (already happened)
Oct 9–10: Witches & Warlocks (this weekend)
Oct 16–17: The Haunted Carnival
Oct 23–24: Vampires & Werewolves
Oct 30–31: Monster Mash Finale (Oct 31 show starts at 8:30pm)
So this Friday and Saturday, expect witches, warlocks, horses, fire, and stunts —
all with a spooky-season twist.
The Deal Math
Let us talk money, because that is why you are here. A comparable night out in Las Vegas in October is not cheap. HallOVeen at Opportunity Village runs about $25 a ticket. Most haunted houses charge $20–30 per person. A Strip show will set you back $50 and up before you have even parked.
Nightmare in the Arena: free. For the whole family. For every show in October.
The troupe asks for donations, which support BHP Events, their 501(c)(3)
nonprofit, and go toward producing the free shows and caring for the horses.
Toss in what you would have spent on one haunted house ticket and you are still
ahead — and the money stays local, supporting a community troupe and rescued
horses.
There is one paid option worth knowing about: donor reserved couches. Each
show has 20 couches available for a $300 donation each, seating up to 3 people,
in a reserved section — no line, no arriving an hour early to snag seats. That
works out to $100 a person for a guaranteed great seat at a genuinely unique
show. It is a splurge, not a necessity: the couches cover only 60 seats in an arena
that holds more than 1,000, so the vast majority of seating is completely free.
Bottom line: a family of four can have a full Halloween night out for the cost of a
donation jar contribution. Try doing that on the Strip.
Know Before You Go
Dates and times: Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. Gates open at
5:00pm, show starts at 6:00pm. (Note: the Halloween night show on Oct 31
starts later, at 8:30pm with gates at 7:30pm — but that is not this weekend.)
Address: Gladius the Show Ranch, 5636 Donald Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. It is in
the northwest valley — plan your drive accordingly.
Arrive early. The troupe notes that performances have been reaching capacity,
and seating is first-come for general admission. Gates open a full hour before
showtime for a reason.
Dress for a ranch. This is an outdoor arena on a working ranch property. Wear
clothes and shoes you do not mind getting dusty. Bring a light jacket — October
evenings in the northwest valley cool off fast once the sun drops.
Bring chairs if you want options. There is public seating, but some regulars bring
their own chairs for comfort. A blanket for the kids is not a bad idea either.
Costumes encouraged. The troupe leans into Halloween hard and invites the
audience to dress up. It is a family-friendly crowd, so keep it fun-spooky rather
than terrifying.
Check the schedule before you go: gladiustheshow.net has the full October lineup.
If this weekend does not work, you have three more themed weekends after it.
The Bottom Line
Free Halloween entertainment that is actually good is rare. Free Halloween
entertainment involving stunt riders, aerialists, fire performers, and horses is
basically unheard of. Nightmare in the Arena has been running all month, the
crowds keep growing, and this weekend's Witches & Warlocks theme is as good a
reason as any to finally go.
Free admission. Donations accepted. Gates at 5, show at 6. See you at the ranch.
